What Are Coffee's Health Benefits?

If you’re thinking “Why would I need a coffee machine at work?”, well this blog post is sure to make you change that to “Why don’t I have a coffee machine at work?!”. There always seems to be some sort of speculation about how coffee affects your health and whether you should be limiting how many cups you drink a day. But, a lot of studies continue to find out that because of coffee’s health benefits, it is better than just good for you.

Here are some findings from studies that prove coffee’s health benefits are the reason why you need a coffee machine in your workplace…

  • 40 studies on 3,852,651 people and 450,256 causes of death by the Research European Journal of Epidemiology, found that drinking 2-4 cups of coffee a day reduced all causes of mortality. It also found it increases your life expectancy and reduces the risk of people developing and dying of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disease.
  • National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, and the Feinberg School of medicine at Northwestern University studied 500,000 people in the UK aged between 38 and 74. The study found “people who drink a lot of coffee tend to live longer than people who drink it moderately or sparsely”. Some of coffee’s health benefits found were: 20% reduced risk of cancer and Type 2 diabetes, 30% reduced risk of Parkinson’s disease and 5% reduced risk of heart disease. Decaf coffee still confers to some health benefits too.
  • The University of California-Irvine’s “90+ study” in 2003 looked at 1,700 people aged 90-99 years old. They found that because of coffee’s health benefits, people who drank 2 cups of coffee a day decreased their chance of premature death by 10%.
  • A study by JAMA Internal Medicine looked at 500,000 people in the UK for 10 years monitoring their coffee consumption. They found that someone who drank 2-5 cups a day was 12% less likely to die compared to someone who drank none. Continuing to prove coffee’s health benefits, people who drank someone who drinks 6-7 cups a day were 16% less likely to die and someone who drank 8 or more cups of coffee a day were 14% less likely to die.
